Tony’s role: expert witness for GPT (the owner), engaged and instructed by Allens.

Description: The building at 111 Eagle Street, Brisbane has 47 storeys above ground with six levels of basement carparking. It is over 180 metres in effective height. There were two types of combustible cladding: aluminium composite panels (ACP) with a polyethylene core and acrylic panels with a polymethyl methacrylate core.

Tony was instructed to provide an opinion on whether the combustible cladding was compliant. He was asked to consider both fire safety matters and work health and safety (WHS) matters. To support his assessment Tony commissioned laboratory testing of samples of the two cladding types. He issued an expert report in September 2021 with a supplementary report in March 2022. Expert conclaves were held in April 2022 and the matter was settled later that month.
