Fire Engineering – Box Hill Hospital Redevelopment

Tony was the fire engineer for the AU$447.5m redevelopment of the Box Hill Hospital. This project involved the construction of a new ten-storey 52,000 m2 clinical services building (Building A) and the refurbishment of the existing hospital (Building B). Building B was required to remain operational throughout the redevelopment. Building A was completed in August 2014 and the Building B refurbishment was completed in November 2015.

Key fire engineering issues included performance solutions for the cladding system, a strategy to provide a passive alternative to a zone smoke control system, increased fire compartment sizes, and rationalised fire resistance levels.
